add text and shapes to an image

to begin, open Add_Text.jpg from the downloadable files folder.
to add text to an image, click the Horizontal Type tool on the left-hand toolbar.

text options appear in the options bar. choose a font, size, and color.

click in the image to place a text field. type, then accept to create a new text layer titled with your entry.

place another text field, type, then accept. click the text layer to retroactively edit the alignment.

select Save As... in the File menu to save your file as a .psd to retain your layers

to begin, open Edit_Text.psd from the downloadable files folder.
to edit a text field, click the Horizontal Type tool from the left hand toolbar. select the text layer you wish to edit from the Layers panel.

select the second layer, then click the the color swatch to summon the Color Picker tool. click the Only Web Colors checkbox before selecting a new color.

to edit a portion of a text field, click the Horizontal Type tool, select the text field, then select the part you wish to modify.

the third text layer contains a paragraph textbox, which constrains the text to wrap within its dimensions.

select the Horizontal Type tool, then click and drag within the image to create a paragraph textbox.

click the icon in the upper toolbar to delete the unfinished type layer.

with the Horizontal Type tool selected, select the third text layer.

click and drag the perimeter of the paragraph textbox to transform its dimensions and reflow the text.

to begin, open Shape.psd from the downloadable files folder.
double click the Shape tool in the Tool panel to open the Flyout menu, then select the Rectangle Shape tool.

in the Layers panel, select the layer you would like the new shape layer to appear above.

click and drag to create a new shape.

in the Properties Panel, locate the 4 corner icons. then, select any one of them and drag to change the values of every corner’s radius.

with the shape layer selected, click Free Transform Path from the Edit menu.

click and drag along the perimeter of the shape to change its dimensions.

hold the option key, then click any edge or corner and drag to transform the shape outward from the center.

select the shape’s layer, then click and drag the shape to move it. use the pink smart guides to align it relative to other elements.

in the Layers panel, click the small rectangle in the bottom right hand corner of the thumbnail to summon the Color Picker tool.

select a new color for the shape.

select the shape layer from the Layers panel. change the value of the Opacity with the slider.

double click the Shape tool in the Tool panel to open the Flyout menu, then select the Custom Shape tool.
on the right side of the Option bar, click the Custom Shape drop-down window. resize the window by dragging the bottom right hand corner.

in the Layers panel, select the layer you would like the new shape layer to appear above.

hold the shift key to constrain the proportions while clicking and dragging to add the shape.
